1972 Dodge Demon 340
4-Speed$35,000
The 1972 Dodge Demon 340 is a standout, albeit sometimes overlooked, American muscle car, embodying Dodge’s pursuit of affordable performance and rebellious styling in the early 1970s. Here’s a quick look at its background;
Origins of the Dodge Demon:
The Dodge Demon was introduced in 1971 as part of Dodge’s lineup of compact muscle cars, built on the A-body platform shared with the Dodge Dart. It was designed to compete in the affordable, entry-level-performance car market, offering a lightweight body paired with powerful engines. Positioned as the performance version of the Dart, the Demon was targeted at younger buyers who wanted the excitement of a muscle car without the high price tag.
The Demon’s most famous variant was the Demon 340, powered by the potent 340-cubic-inch V8 engine. This version quickly gained a reputation for being a budget-friendly but high-performance muscle car, delivering impressive speed and handling in a compact, aggressive package.

This Demon fires right up with no smoke or odd noises (aside from the distinctive Mopar starter whine). Shifts smoothly through all 4 gears and Reverse activates a handy dash indicator light to inform the driver of the gear. All gauges and dash controls work as they should and the factory A/C blows cold. Power Steering is smooth as butter with the Idler Arm just replaced ensuring tight responsiveness and straight-line driving with no pull. A few bolt-on modifications including the wheels and valve covers would make it easy to go back to the factory spec.
